The New York Rangers lost two games over the weekend that they desperately needed to win.  Now, they return to Madison Square Garden and hope to get on a winning streak. After tonight’s game against the Capitals, they take on the awful Buffalo Sabres for two games followed by two absolutely must win games against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

How important is this game?  The Rangers have dropped five points behind the Bruins who are in fourth place and have three games in hand.  The Rangers are 14 points behind the Islanders and Penguins, though they have two games in hand.  With only 22 games left in the season, time is running out.

The Rangers will no doubt try to build off their four goal third period on Sunday.  While it fell short, they were able to make it a game and even more encouraging was the fact that it was the bottom six that did all of the even strength scoring.   A cynic will say that with a 4-0 lead the Capitals eased up and allowed the Rangers back into the game, but the fact is the Rangers did come close to tying the score.
