3 keys to winning (starting to sound like a broken record)

  1. Learn a lesson, play defense – The Rangers need to remember the second and third periods of the game Saturday.    Forget about that early lead and the successful power plays. The Rangers need to pretend the Devils are the Washington Capitals and play a shutdown defense, keying off the penalty kill.
  2. Win the special teams battle – That’s how they won on Saturday, even though they were outplayed by the Devils most of the game. The Devils power play and penalty kill are awful and the Rangers need to take advantage of that.
  3. Balanced scoring – It’s all well and good that Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, Ryan Strome and Pavel Buchnevich are scoring by the bushel, but they cannot do it every game and the Rangers needs some scoring from the third and fourth lines.  David Quinn is rolling four lines and everyone is getting ice time.  It’s time for the kids to start producing offensively to take the heat off the veterans.
