Notes on the game

The penalty kill was absolutely crucial and helped win the game. The Rangers took only two penalties in the game, but they came within 39 seconds of each other, giving the Flyers a two man advantage for 1:21.   It was the fourth 5v3 the Blueshirts have had to face and they have yet to give up a goal.

The first penalty taken was a too many men on the ice infraction, their sixth this season.  They’ve killed them all, but are ahead of last year’s pace when they had eight too many men penalties.

Alexandar Georgiev played very well, making 26 saves.  The only goal he allowed was a puck that bounced in off an ankle.

The Flyers were swarming most of the game and had 51 shots attempts to the Rangers’ 38 at even strength including 11 high danger chances to the Rangers’ six.  Georgiev had to be very, very good.

Chris Kreider scored a power play goal off a brilliant feed from Artemi Panarin.  While he is tied for the team lead in goals with 20, he has now gone 22 games without an even strength goal.

The goals scored by Pavel Buchnevich and Alexis Lafrenière were great individual efforts.

Filip Chytil’s goal was a clear miss by Flyers goalie Alex Lyons, fired from an impossible angle.

Chytil had a breakaway in the second period when he came out of the penalty box but his shot was stopped by Alex Lyon.

Kevin Rooney tangled with Scott Laughton, fighting in the second period.

With his ninth goal, Lafrenière is now tied for seventh in rookie goal scoring and is fourth in even strength goals (nine). He has as many even strength goals as Chris Kreider, he man he replaced on the top line.

Mika Zibanejad totaled 18 points this season against the Flyer, second most in NHL history.<

Jacob Trouba missed his second game and is still listed as day-to-day. Zac Jones played 13:42 and saw over a minute of power play time.   Quinn paired him with Ryan Lindgren while teaming Adam Fox with Libor Hajek for most of the game.

Adam Fox added an assist to his league leading total among blueliners.  He now leads all defensemen in scoring with 43 points and in assists with 38.  He also totaled more assists in a season against the Flyers than any other blueliner in NHL history.

The season series with the Flyers ended with the Rangers holding a 4-3-1 record the exact same record as Philadelphia.
