My 3 Rangers stars of the game

  • Alexandar Georgiev was stellar in goal, making a number of outstanding saves.  This was only his third start since March 19 and he has been excellent in all three games, allowing five goals in those three games.
  • Mika Zibanejad finished the game with two assists and the most ice time of any forward.  While his offense deserves recognition, it was work on the 5v3 penalty kill that gets him the second star.  The Rangers were shorthand for 3:39 and Zibanejad was on the ice for 2:27, absolutely crucial to the penalty kill.
  • Alexis Lafrenière

looks mightly comfortable on the Zibanejad line and if he keeps scoring like this he will stay there.  His goal was a goal scorer’s goal, as he showed good hands in getting the puck past the Flyers’ goalie.

    The official 3 stars

    1. Alexandar Georgiev
    2. Alexis Lafrenière
    3. Pavel Buchnevich

    East Division

The Rangers have pulled within six points of the Bruins, but Boston still has two games in hand.  The Sabres did the Rangers a favor, beating Boston 6-4. The Sabres almost blew a 5-1 lead, allowing the Bruins to score three late goals in the third period.

Boston and the Rangers are off on Saturday, while the Penguins host the Devils and the Capitals visit Nassau Coliseum.
