About the Islanders

The Islanders can clinch a playoff spot if they win this game.  If the Rangers lose and the Bruins win, Boston’s magic number drops to one.   After Saturday’s practice, Coach Barry Trotz said that he is going with the same lineup that prevailed over the Rangers on Thursday night.

The Islanders are 19-3-3 at Nassau Coliseum this season. Those three regulation home losses are the fewest of any team in the NHL.  The Rangers do own one of those wins, a 4-1 victory on April 9.

Projected lineup

47 Leo Komarov – 13 Mathew Barzal –7 Jordan Eberle
18 Anthony Beauvillier – 29 Brock Nelson  – 12 Josh Bailey

Good-bye Nassau Coliseum

We’ve said it before, but this time it looks like it is for real.  The USB Arena is due to open in time for the 2021-22 season and that means this will be the Rangers last visit to the Coliseum.

They’ve played 131 regular season games at the old barn and the Rangers have won 56 games versus 64 losses along with eight ties and three overtime losses.  The Rangers played their first game in Uniondale on October 21, 1972, a 2-1 win.

In the eight playoff series between the Rangers and the Islanders, they have played 19 games at the Coliseum and the Rangers’ record is 9-10.

The most heartbreaking game for the Rangers at the Nassau Coliseum was Game Five of the 1984 Patrick Division Semi-Finals when the Islanders won the series 3-2 on Ken Morrow’s overtime goal after Don Maloney had tied the game in the final minute of play.
