The standings

After Saturday, the Rangers’ tragic number is one.  Lose one game and they are eliminated. Boston doesn’t even have to win to eliminate the Rangers, they just need to get to overtime once in their last six games.  It’s over.

Saturday’s games

Islanders 3, Rangers 0
Bruins 6, Sabres 2
Penguins 3, Capitals 0
Devils 4, Flyers 1

√ Clinched playoff spot
* Eliminated from the playoffs

The lottery look

The Rangers will qualify for the NHL Entry Draft lottery, though only the top two spots will be up for grabs.  Here are the reverse standings, worst to best of all the teams that could potentially finish outside of the playoff picture. Teams with an “e” are eliminated and will be in the lottery.  Teams with a “p” are currently in a playoff position, but have not clinched a spot yet.

As of today, it looks like the Rangers will have the best record of a team to not make the playoffs, giving them the 15th overall pick in the draft  (unless they win the lottery).   It is somewhat depressing to see that the Rangers have more points than three teams currently in a playoff spot and the same as one other team.

What’s next?

Two games at Madison Square Garden against the Washington Capitals are up next.  The Caps won’t be taking these games lightly as they are in a dogfight for first place in the East Division.

More. Finally, a seventh game win. light
