The 2021 NHL Entry Draft is over and the New York Rangers added eight players to their prospect pool. No major trades materialized with the only transaction in the third round when the Blueshirts traded two picks to the Capitals so they could move up five slots.
Here are the numbers.
- The Rangers drafted two centers, two left wingers, two right wingers, one defenseman and one goalie
- Three picks came from the WHL with two from the USHL and one each from the OHL, Liiga and Finnish juniors.
- Four picks are from Canada, two from the United States and one each from the Czech Republic and Finland
By picking a defenseman with their last selection, they avoided not drafting a defenseman for the second time since expansion. The only time that the Rangers have not taken a defenseman in the draft was in 2007.
