Notes on the schedule

Despite the long break in February, it is a fairly balanced scheduled.

  • October – 9 games: 3 home/6 away.  The team plays nine games in 20 days. Only one set of back-to-back games.
  • November – 13 games: 5 home/8 away. In one stretch they play six games in nine days, but they also have four straight days off at one point. Three sets of back-to-back games this month.
  • December – 14 games: 8 home/6 away. The month starts with 10 games in 17 days including three sets of back-to-back games.
  • January – 14 games: 7 home/7 away. The Rangers have their longest road trip of the season, five games, this month.  Three sets of back-to-back games.
  • February – 4 games: 3 home/1 away.  22 straight days off for the All-Star game and the Olympics. One pair of back-to-back games.  They conclude their longest home stand of the season at four games though it is broken up by the long hiatus.
  • March – 14 games: 5 home/9 away.  After March 16, the Rangers play only one of their last 21 games outside of the Eastern Conference.   There are two sets of back-to-back games in March.
  • April – 14 games: 9 home/5 away.  Nine of the 14 games are against Metropolitan Division teams and 13 of the 14 games are in the East Division. Two sets of back-to-back games.

Days of the week

Sunday is the best day for home cooking with ten games at Madison Square Garden. Meanwhile, Saturday is road day as they play 11 times away from home. Saturday is also their busiest day on the schedule with 15 games.  Monday is the slowest day with only seven games scheduled.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Sunday: 10 home, 3 away
  • Monday:  5 home, 2 away
  • Tuesday:   6 home, 7 away
  • Wednesday: 5 home, 6 away
  • Thursday:  3 home,7 away
  • Friday: 8 home, 5 away
  • Saturday: 4 home, 11 away

The schedule is pretty fair to the New York Rangers and the heavy load of home games against Met Division rivals in April can only help them during the  playoff push. The challenge will be getting off to a fast start in October and November when they play 14 of their first 22 games on the road.  The good news is that only ten of those 22 games are against teams that made the playoffs.
