Top draft pick Brennan Othmann signs Entry Level Contract
The New York Rangers took care of another piece of business, signing Brennan Othmann, their top 2021 draft pick to his Entry Level Contract. It’s a three year contract for the standard maximum $925,000. Since he is likely to play this season with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL, the contract will slide until he is ready to make the Rangers roster.
Othmann was taken by the Rangers with the 16th pick in the first round. The 18-year-old forward played in the Swiss League last season when the OHL cancelled their campaign. In 34 games he scored seven goals and had 16 points. He played for Canada at the World Junior Championships in January, with three goals and three assists in seven games for the gold medal winners.
Othmann did play for the Firebirds in the 2019-20 season, with 17 goals and 33 points in 55 games as a 16-year old.
Othmann is the 47th player under contract to the Rangers, three under the maximum of 50. The only player who needs to sign a deal is defenseman Libor Hajek. There are five prospects on their reserve list who need to be signed by next June.
