That was a very impressive performance from the New York Rangers. When you are able to stand up to one of the hottest teams in the NHL and beat them, you’ve proven everything you need to. That was one of the best performances this Rangers team has had this season. It was the perfect balance of the young kids providing great depth and the veterans leading the charge to snap the 11-game win streak of the class of the Metropolitan.

What has to be appreciated is that the Rangers did not back away from the physical aspect of this game. When the Canes put their rookie phenom out in front of this Rangers powerplay and it seemed to awaken the beast as the Rangers would go 3/4. With the Rangers’ powerplay dragging them into this game when the Hurricanes lead, they became the first team this season to beat the Hurricanes in regulation when they lead after 2 periods.

With the scoring from the back end being as good as it was, the Rangers were able to add four points to the cause for the Blueshirts. Production from the backend was a big part of how they were able to become the first team to defeat the Hurricanes in regulation in a one-goal game. New York was able to shatter that aura of invincibility one of the best teams in the NHL had when games were tight.

Igor Shesterkin was able to shut the Hurricanes out during the third period. Turning down the Hurricanes and shutting the door in the decisive period allowed the Rangers the platform to build their comeback against one of the hottest teams in the NHL. One of the strongest performances the Rangers have shown us as fans all season is capped off with a standing ovation at the end of the night for the Blueshirts.

This win moves the Rangers back up to third in the Metropolitan, still, 8 points back of the Hurricanes, while the Hurricanes have an extra game to play, but there is a lot to suggest that the Rangers’ season is starting to get back to trending in the right direction. Defeating one of the best teams in the NHL in their first meeting of the season is how you show that you are ready to be taken seriously once again.

Next. What to make of the NYR season so far. dark
