Being a team in New York that has been around for as long as the Rangers have, there are a lot of rivalries with the Blueshirts. No rivalry in hockey beats a local one though, and these two Metropolitan area rivals do not break that trend. Right now, these are the 2nd and 3rd placed teams in the Metropolitan Division and as the Rangers continue their chase for the Metropolitan Division title, the Devils stand in their way.

Jonny Brodzinski is available this afternoon since he is back with the team after he was unavailable due to his wife going into labor. It means that everyone is available for Gerard Gallant and his coaching staff ahead of this very important game between two teams at the top of the Metropolitan Divison. Seeing the Rangers continuing to progress is going to be helped with their health.

Former Tampa Bay Lightning winger Ondrej Palat is going to be in the lineup tonight for New Jersey. Palat has missed a lot of the season with a lower-body injury and will be playing his second game since he was activated from the LTIR. That activation makes a New Jersey Devils team that can score for fun a lot more terrifying than they are without him. New York will need to have a strong defensive game plan to cope.
