New York is coming off back-to-back losses into tonight’s game at Detroit but has otherwise been on FIRE to start the new year.

The Rangers are 15-6 since January began and have been one of the very best teams in the NHL on the road this season, owning a 17-5-5 record away from their home ice.

The Red Wings are in the midst of a hot streak too, with wins in six of their last seven games, but I think that ends tonight against New York.

Rangers at Red Wings prediction

The Rangers’ offense scored at least four goals in seven straight games before their current two-game losing streak. They’ll have a chance to bounce tonight at Detroit, which is in the bottom half of the league in goals allowed.

The teams have split their two meetings this season, with Detroit winning the first one, 3-2, via shootout and New York winning the second, 8-1.

Even though Detroit has been on a hot streak lately, much of its success has come on the road. To make matters worse, the team just played in Washington on Tuesday night – coming away with a 3-1 win – before traveling back to Detroit for tonight’s game.

New York, meanwhile, last played at home on Monday night and it isn’t a long trip over to Detroit, meaning the Rangers could have the upper hand when it comes to rest, too.

Expect New York to come out firing early and often tonight. If it grabs an early lead, the Rangers could coast to another lopsided win, similar to how they last won at Detroit.
