Despite losing the last three games of its series against the New Jersey Devils, the New York Rangers are still alive in this series. If the Blueshirts can reach into the bag of miracles and pull out a come-from-behind win in this series to progress through to round two, the Blueshirts have an opponent waiting. We all knew that the winner of this series would play the winner of the Hurricanes and Islanders series.

Carolina sent the New York Islanders home in six games and will be getting some extra rest ahead of the second round. With the winner of this series still officially unknown despite some fans being able to read the tea leaves, they are unsure of their next opponent. This should serve as inspiration for the New York Rangers because everyone wants the chance to play the best teams in the league and Carolina are certainly one of them.

You will remember that the New York Rangers eliminated the Hurricanes in 7 last season in the second round and the Rangers have a great record against the Canes historically. New York has only lost at the Garden against the Hurricanes three times in the last 12 years. They have the history on their side so in a clash between the two, there is a strong chance that the Blueshirts could progress.

You never want to look past the next game and for the Rangers that is game six against the New Jersey Devils, but you cannot help but be excited by the idea of the Rangers looking to make it two straight series victories against the team from Raleigh. They need to overcome the Devils if they are going to take on the Division winners but there is a chance for the Rangers to progress past round two if they can beat Jersey.
