Discover why Rangers fans should root for Trevor Zegras’ success with the Ducks. His new contract could set the stage for their stars’ future deals.

The Trevor Zegras contract saga with the Anaheim Ducks could have some interesting effects on the New York Rangers. Yep, you read that right!

So, Zegras, the young star in Anaheim, just signed a three-year deal at $5.75 million per season. That sounds like a sweet deal for the Ducks, right? The 22-year-old forward has  139 points in 180 NHL games.

Understanding the Ripple Effect of Zegras’Zegras’ Contract on Rangers Rising Stars:

Now, here’s where it gets interesting for the Rangers. Zegras’ contract could set a precedent. Young guns like Alexis Lafrenière and Kaapo Kakko might start eyeing their contracts differently if he’s a steal for the Ducks.

You probably recall they also agreed to bridge deals as restricted free agents. Kakko got 2X$2.1 million AAV last Summer. Lafreniere received a 2X$4.65 million AAV extension this offseason. They’re also around the same age. Kakko was drafted seven picks ahead of Zegras, who was selected ninth overall by Anaheim in 2019. The Laffy-Taffy was the first overall pick a year later.

And don’t forget defenseman K’Andre Miller, who’s also in the mix. He’s looking at this and thinking about his contract down the line. Yes, the 23-year-old agreed to a two-year $7.74 million extension this Summer, but it only delayed the inevitable. If the ‘Zegras’ deal turns out to be a bargain, Miller might want a slice of that pie too.

However, if Zegras struggles to live up to his contract? It may make the young Rangers think twice about demanding too much too soon. Of course, it will mostly depend on their performances. Yet, it could set the tone for other pacts across the league, especially as the salary cap increases across the NHL.

That said, Blueshirts fans should root for Zegras to succeed other than when he faces the Rangers twice a season.
Let’s face it: we all love seeing young talent shine in the NHL, even if they’re on other teams. If Zegras shines with his contract, it could pave the way for fair and rewarding deals for New York’s kids when their time comes.

In hockey, contracts are like playing a game of chess. You’ve got to strategize, make your moves, and hope you don’t get checked too hard in negotiations.

So, keep an eye on Anaheim and Zegras, Rangers fans. What happens there could send shockwaves through the league and influence how other young stars negotiate their deals.
