Discover how Ryan Lindgren, known as a ‘Defensive Defenseman,’ is adapting to a more offensive role in Coach Laviolette’s system. Exciting changes ahead for the Rangers!

Alright, New York Rangers fans, let’s talk defense! As you know, head coach Peter Laviolette has a different playbook than Gerard Gallant. According to Blueshirts defensive stalwart Ryan Ryan Lindgren, it’s all about offense.

“It doesn’t seem like it, the way he talks. He wants all five guys getting up there,” Lindgren explained. Yes, Laviolette wants everyone to join the offensive zone!

Does Laviolette even coin the term “defensive defenseman”? He does! According to the coach, “Defensive defensemen are part of it.”. So, there’s still room for the traditional D-man”.

Ryan Lindgren Embraces Offensive Role in Laviolette’s System:

Lindgren, known for his defensive skills, is ready to embrace the change. In this evolving system,  he aims to balance things on both sides of the ice.

“ I know I’m looked more as a defender, but I do have those capabilities where I can jump in and get involved,” he said.

New York’s blue-line crew, a mix of youth and veterans, is gearing up for the versatility challenge. With Lindgren, reigning Norris Trophy runner-up and former winner, Adam Fox, captain Jacob Trouba, K’Andre Miller, and Braden Schneider, it’s a well-rounded group.

Lindgren added, “With our goaltending, defense is a strength for us.” That’s what Shesterkin has been for the Rangers. Their backbone!

As for Laviolette’s new neutral-zone left-wing lock system, it’s shaking things up. Lindgren said, “Especially on the left, we’re supposed to be up there more. That’s slightly different from what we’ve done the last few years [Under  Gallant and David Quinn]”.

So, Rangers fans, get ready for some aggressive defense and maybe even a few more goals from our blue-liners. It’s a whole new game plan!
