2) Mikael Granlund
Back during the 2022-23 season, Mikael Granlund was acquired by the Penguins to try and squeeze one more playoff run out of the core. This was not the significant acquisition the Penguins hoped for, as he only scored a goal and four assists for five points in 21 games. The Penguins also failed to make the playoffs, ending their 16-year playoff streak.
Although Granlund is not much of a goal scorer, is an important part of the offensive attack. He has great vision, which allows him get the puck to his teammates in scoring positions. Pairing him with a good goal scorer will dramatically increase his stats. He also a key contributor on the penalty kill.
His penalty killing ability would be his biggest contribution to the Rangers. While the Rangers killed 80.3% of their penalties, good for 11th in the league, this was due to Chris Krieder play on it. However, with Kreider's days as a Ranger seemingly at an end, they're going to need someone to replace him. Granlund is someone who can replace Kreider and keep the penalty kill at the same level it was this year.
