2) Luke Glendening

On the surface, Luke Glendening does not appear to be someone who will move the needle for the Rangers and their fans. He's not a player who will light up the stat sheet or win a game all by himself. In 77 games with the Lightning this season, he only recorded four goals and three assists for seven points. Not exactly the numbers of a high-level NHL player,

However, Glendening contributions do not appear on the stats sheet. He's a fourth-line center that thrives on the defensive side of the game. He's able to use his speed to win puck battles, and his instincts get him in the right position more often than not. According to defensive point shares, he has contributed 11.1 points over his career from his defense alone. He's also one of the best penaltykillers in the league.

Although there are concerns about Glendening being 36 years old to start the season, it should not deter the Rangers from trying to sign him. The biggest problem for the Rangers in 2024-25 was their poor defensive play. The forward group made little to no impact in that regard. Glendening will give the Rangers a defensive first forward they can put into their bottom six. He can play the crucial minutes late in games to try to protect the lead.
