The New York Rangers could not storm the fortress of Vegas, losing to the Golden Knights, 3-2. It was a valiant effort, but they did not have enough to get it done.

Here are three takeaways from the night.

Goaltending is solid right now

As seen during the chaotic and eventful home game against Detroit, the Rangers goaltending is solid right now. Despite allowing three goals on the night to Vegas, two of which were on the powerplay, Igor Shesterkin proved once again that he is worth every single penny. Especially with this highlight reel save.

Shesterkin kept the game close at all times. According to MoneyPuck.com, he had to face 11 medium danger shot attempts and then another four high-danger chances, stopping all but one high-danger shot. The emphasis right now is on the offense getting going. Two goals are not going to be enough, but had they netted a third one and forced overtime, "The Prince" might have shut the door on the Golden Knights.

Vegas is a great team and a hard road environment

Ever since the Golden Knights entered the NHL, there has been a lot of scrutiny on whether Vegas is a hockey town. Much can be said for the NFL and potential MLB team, as Vegas is a tourist haven, which is not ideal for growing a die-hard fan base. Boy, have they proven everyone wrong.

Vegas is a hockey town, and its fans are eccentric. And their team is a powerhouse despite many of their "big-time" players being out. Mark Stone and William Karlsson are both on LTIR, and both are impactful top-six players. Jack Eichel has been the highlight for this team this season, as he has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points on the year in just 19 games.

Fox cannot play those kinds of minutes

Over the last three games, Adam Fox has been on the ice alot for the Rangers. Yes, he is the team's number one defenseman, so high minutes are to be expected of him, but it cannot be sustainable.

Dating back to the contest in Columbus, in which Fox logged 28:38 of ice time, he then faced off against the Red Wings for 25:47 and then another 26:25 against Vegas. That is a tough three-game stretch, and the Rangers need No. 23 at his best, and not keeled over and hurt.

This is where Carson Soucy, Braden Schneider, and Will Borgen come in, as these d-men need to shine a little brighter. Matthew Robertson has not been horrible since his call-up, but it is really on those other three to step up their play. Fox has to play in all facets of the game, and 23 to 25 minutes a night is still the standard, but anything more than that is potentially hurting their prized possession.
