The New York Rangers got themselves back in the win column on Tuesday, snapping an ugly four-game skid. It was a dire stretch, but taking down the St. Louis Blues put the team's early-season objectives back into perspective.
Now attention turns to a flailing Philadelphia Flyers squad that has been dragging the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. If the Rangers bring the same compete level they showed against St. Louis, they should have no problems taking care of business on home ice.
Tonight also marks the on-ice debut of the Rangers' Hometown Remix jerseys. Take the design for what you will, but in my opinion, they missed the assignment on this one.
Here are four key X-factors that will dictate the outcome tonight at Madison Square Garden.

Dylan GarandÂ
Dylan Garand continues to dominate the headlines for the Rangers. He gets another start in net while Joonas Korpisalo works his way back into game shape with Hartford. The immediate schedule offers some breathing room with Philadelphia and Seattle up next, but Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers loom large just four days away.
The rookie netminder was sharp in his 32-save bounce-back against St. Louis. Tonight gives him a golden opportunity to build on that confidence against a Flyers offense ranked 30th in the NHL in goal scoring. Philadelphia has struggled mightily to finish all season, and Garand cannot let the dam break in a rivalry matchup.
Adam FoxÂ
Coming off another multi-point showcase against the Blues, Adam Fox remains firmly in the Norris Trophy conversation. Racking up 19 points this early is nothing to scoff at, regardless of the strong starts posted by Evan Bouchard and Seth Jones for their respective clubs.
Fox has historically owned the Flyers. In 25 career games against Philadelphia, he has registered two goals and 19 assists for 21 points. Expect him to dictate the pace from the blue line once again, especially if he is quarterbacking both power-play units.
I asked #NYR Mike Sullivan about the decision to have Adam Fox QB’ing both PP units:

“Well, Quinny and I talked about it when we went to two units the way we did — we talked about, can we utilize Foxy with both of them? And, that’s going to be Foxy’s call when he’s on the ice.… pic.twitter.com/u97fzbJWFN
Gabe PerreaultÂ
If there is one player who desperately needs to get off the mat, it is Gabe Perreault, and doing it against a struggling Flyers team would be right on schedule. Held off the scoresheet in his last five games, the rookie is due for a breakout performance.
On top of his dry spell, the resurgence of Pavel Dorofeyev alongside a hard-working third line of Will Cuylle, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Eeli Tolvanen has cranked up the pressure on No. 94. Perreault needs to put together a complete, high-impact game against the Flyers.
Mika ZibanejadÂ
Last, but certainly not least, Mika Zibanejad has to take advantage of his matchup against Philadelphia's top-line center, Christian Dvorak. This is a head-to-head battle where No. 93 holds a clear edge down the middle, and he must exploit it.
Zibanejad has enjoyed similar career success against the Flyers. In 52 career games against Philadelphia, he has compiled an even split of 25 goals and 25 assists for 50 points. If Zibanejad sets the tone offensively, the Rangers should cruise to their second straight victory.
