The Blueshirts had another discouraging loss, this time in a 3-1 showing against the Los Angeles Kings on the road. As a result, the Rangers have fallen to the No. 4 spot in their battle for a Wild Card.
Let's breakdown exactly how the Rangers got their latest loss with four key takeaways from the matchup
1. Igor Shesterkin's Frustrations Show
Despite the NHL's top paid goaltender — Igor Shesterkin — finishing the game against the Kings with 30 saves, the New York Rangers have still lost four of their last five games.
Fans across social media paid special attention to Shesterkin getting physical against the Kings during the matchup — with many pointing out he could be channeling his frustrations into his physicality of play despite being a netminder.

2. The Failed Matt Rempe Fight
Unfortunately for budding young forward Matt Rempe, he put up one of his worst performances in dropping the gloves in his NHL career. This was because his fight against Kings' player Tanner Jeannot was over before it really began.
Before barely landing a single punch Rempe lost his balance and went down on the ice. Jeannot (6'2", 220 pounds compared to Rempe's 6'9", 255 pounds) tried to help the Ottawa, Canada native up and resume fighting — but the referees were having none of it.

3. J.T. Miller Ninth NYR Goal this Season
J.T. Miller put New York ahead 1-0 at 2:10 of the second period with a goal awarded after first being under review. It initially appeared a sprawled LA goaltender Darcy Kuemper kept the puck out with a sweeping right pad. However, it was called a goal by the situation room in Toronto after replays showed the puck indeed going past the line before the goalie's right skate swept it away.
This brings Miller's statline with the Rangers for the 2024-25 season to nine goals, 12 assists for 21 points across 22 games played (+2).

4. A Slow Offensive Effort
The Rangers were held to one goal for the fourth time in eight games on Tuesday night. New York did however manage 23 shots on goal — far better than the 12 they had Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks or 13 earlier in their other recent game against the Calgary Flames. But it was still not nearly enough scoring chances or shot volume. And most definitely, not enough goals to result in a win — obviously.
