The New York Rangers' disastrous 2024-25 season ended a month-and-a-half ago, and the organization has already changed in major ways. Throughout the regular season, everyone in the NHL world knew that the Blueshirts were going to need to shake up their core, and it took not too long after the last game for New York to make a seismic move.
The second that Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan became available, Rangers' President and General Manager Chris Drury made the move, bringing in Sullivan to be the 38th head coach in franchise history. Drury and Sullivan have a past relationship, and Sullivan was the favorite to take over for Peter Laviolette.
As the offseason continues, expect New York to make more moves, including saying goodbye to familiar faces and bringing in some new ones to bounce back from a year New York wants to forget. But, the team is not starting from rock bottom.
There's a few things from the 2024-25 season that the Rangers can hold on to as they look to become a contender once again.
