The Ugly
I feel like I can just say "Pavel Buchnevich" and end this slide here. That Buchnevich trade is possibly the worst deal the Rangers have made since the Brad Park deal. Pavel Buchnevich was traded for Sammy Blais, who was here for two years, tore his ACL, never scored a goal, was traded back to St Louis in the deal that brought Tarasenko to New York, and promptly scored twice upon his return to St Louis.
Then there's the Igor situation. He's already offered Igor Shesterkin the chance to become the highest-paid netminder in NHL history, making more than $11 million annually, and he declined that. Judging by the fact the Rangers are still engaging in negotiations with the Russian shot-stopper, there is about to be one hefty contract handed out that may not be justified.
With some general managers, you can argue that his trading isn't great, but his drafting is good. No, you cannot say that with Drury. Outside of round one, Drury has struggled to find anything, and he's stuck to the ancient methods of "draft the biggest player available." He's not considered talent much when looking at these kids, and the Rangers prospect pool is struggling because of it.
