Adam Fox Could Break 76-year-old NHL record, but let's pray he doesn't
The Rangers star defenseman has had some early troubles in scoring the puck, but there's still a chance in him breaking a long-standing record.
The New York Rangers long list of superstars has continued to show up on a nightly basis this season. Night in and night out, the same names are etching their name on the scoresheet, and are the main components of why they are amongst the top of the NHL.
One of those top players for the Rangers is defenseman Adam Fox. He is a top-tier D-man, and the best one of this Rangers roster, as he is currently having a solid season through 16 games. But, his contribution to this team has some historical reference to it, with him being on pace to break a record set back in the 1947-48 season.
If you are a Rangers fan, it might be a good idea to start praying that he doesn't break this one.
Breaking Jimmy Thomson's Single-Season Assist Record
This is a fun one to think about, and certainly an interesting one. Back in the late 1940s, Jimmy Thomson was a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs when he set the NHL record of most assists in a single season without registering a goal. The record still sits at 29 assists, and a magical goose egg in the "G" column.
This season, Fox is well on his way to breaking that mark, with an astounding 13 assists already on the year. If he cannot find a way to put the puck in the back of the net by the season's end, he will place his name in the history books.
This is why I stated earlier that it would be a better idea if he didn't break it. Assists are great and all, but for an offensive-gifted defenseman like Fox, the preference for goals in addition to helpers is ideal. He is one of the top passers in the NHL, and his awareness and poise with the puck to develop offense in any kind of situation is a huge help for the Rangers.
Do you think that Fox could go the entire season without registering a single goal, and shatter Thomson's record?
