The playoff face is coming, and the Rangers seem to be awake because they brought New York a 6-1 away win against the San Jose Sharks. Adam Fox helped out with bringing this team back into the game. New York needs this.

But, can the truly Rangers actually get to the playoffs? It would be a New York Miracle after the season they played this year.

The New York Rangers have finally won a game. They battled the worst team in the league, sitting at the 32nd spot in the NHL. But a win is a win. The Rangers just need the points and, honestly, a boost in their confidence. They played the San Jose Sharks at the SAP Center on March 29th.

The game's final score was 6-1, so it was an easy win for the beloved Blueshirts. They needed this desperately. Because of this long-awaited win, they have 77 points and are in the wildcard spot behind the Ottawa Senators.

Adam Fox

One of the Ranger’s players contributed to two goals for this game. That’s right; defenseman Adam Fox is to be praised for scoring and his overall play. This defenseman also made a goal the night before when the team faced the Anaheim Ducks. Fox is channeling goal-scoring energy. This game was his 16th game, where he scored more than once, which tied him fifth in multi-point games compared to all the defensemen in the NHL.

Fox hasn’t been the most impressive player on the team. He performed just for this Sharks game, but fans are not keen on his performance on the ice. Since the Four Nations games, Fox hasn’t been a crowd favorite, but that’s subject to change if he keeps up his game. Stats-wise, Fox has done okay.

Is there room for improvement? Yes.

But there’s always room for improvement for the Rangers, especially this season. Fox had four goals and four assists for March, making eight total points. This hasn’t been his best season. Fox had a profound season just last year, 2023-2024, when he scored 17 goals and had 56 assists. Can Fox keep this up? Can he envision the rest of this season to be good?

What can Fox do for this team? Fox can make a difference, and he has proved that. He needs to keep the incentive strong, and he can help the Rangers get to the finish line. Just like the rest of the team, Fox has to be present. All focus should be on the game and how he can score, defend, and bring victory to the Rangers. The Rangers need to put away their pride and play instead. Fox is a defenseman, and what do the defensemen do?  They defend.  He needs to play a solid game so that he helps the goalie and keeps the puck away from the net. Deflection is key.

There have been some changes to his original line, with a former teammate, Ryan Lindgren, being traded. That adjustment for Fox might have been shaky, but he seems to have gotten the hang of it now. The dedication to his position feels like it is there for Fox, and now he must help bring the team wins and try to make a difference in each game for two reasons. One, to get the fans on his good side again, and two, to become a better hockey player.

If the Rangers hope to compete in the playoffs, they must all bring 100%. New York City has their back and is rooting for them. Now it is all in their hands, as Ranger fans desperately wait for the infamous Instagram post “ We are in”.
