New Yorker Ranger and current 4 Nations Face-Off Team USA member Adam Fox is celebrating his birthday by facing off against Sweden in Boston, Massachusetts.
A Harvard alum, the former Ivy Leaguer turned 27-years-old. While Fox and the rest of the U.S. have already secured their spot in the final of the Four Nations Face-Off with victories over Finland and Canada, they still get to face off against fellow-Blueshirt Mika Zibanejad and his Swedish team. Fox will also likely get to his see teammate Chris Kreider play against Zibanejad.
Kreider could possibly replace Matthew Tkachuk, who will sit out with an injury. this is noteworthy, as it will be the first time since January 24, 2016, that Zibanejad and Kreider will be on the ice as opponents.
Fox, a New York native, is one of four Rangers on Team USA and one of six Blueshirts in total on various 4 Nations' rosters. He joins Kreider, Vincent Trocheck and J.T. Miller on America in addition to Zibanejad on Sweden and Urho Vaakanainen on Team Finland.
Fox previously said the international tournament is extra exciting due to it offering fans a best-on-best international hockey tournament for the first time in over five years.
“I think the 4 Nations is going to be great,” Fox said. “There hasn’t been best-on-best in a while. Whenever you get the chance to represent your country, it’s a great honor, and everyone takes a lot of pride in that. It’ll be a nice look-ahead for the Olympics as well.”

As Team USA prepared for the final round-robin game, Fox did in fact see Zibanejad at the hotel and exchanged a brief greeting. Fox said there hasn't really been any communication between the pair leading up to the Monday night contest.
"Uh, no, no friends on the ice. I did see him at the hotel, and after their first game, [we] just said hi. He had his family there, everything. So no, no texting, though. I'm there, but we'll put our friendships aside tomorrow," said Fox.
And that makes sense because the U.S. need to stay focused. So far Team USA has beaten Finland (6-1) and Canada (3-1). While Sweden has both games they've played, all of the one's they've participated in have gone to overtime.
Puck drop for Fox's birthday matchup is slated for 8:00 p.m. EST against Sweden on Feb. 17th. The game will be available for viewing via MAX, truTV, TNT, SN, TVAS.
“When you wear the United States jersey, a lot of pride comes with it,” Fox said.
