The Rangers Prospects

Both Drew Fortescue and Gabe Perreault were drafted by the New York Rangers in 2023 and are now playing side by side at Boston College. The Eagles were 8-2-0 going into their Friday night clash with rival school Northeastern University and the Rangers prospects were a big reason why.

Gabe Perreault currently leads the Eagles with 18 points on the season (six goals, 12 assists) and has a +/- of +13. It's safe to say Perreault is off to a hot start and is giving Rangers fans more than enough reason to be excited about the future. Drew Fortescue won't be shocking anyone with his offensive statistics. Fortescue is a 6'2 defenseman who is currently averaging just about one block per game, but who seems to facilitate the offense of Boston College- currently boasting a +/- of +9.

Eagles vs Huskies

On Friday night Boston College welcomed struggling Northeastern University to Conte Forum for a Hockey East showdown. Just 4:18 into the first period, Perreault lived up to his reputation as an impactful playmaking winger. Perreault found himself on the better side of a two on one, streaking into the Northeastern zone. After selling a fake shot, Perreault made a beautiful pass around the Northeastern defenseman, finding teammate Ryan Leonard, who deposited the puck into the Husky goal to give Boston College an early 1-0 lead.

The play was a perfect example of what kind of player Perreault is. The ability to remain calm and collected on the rush and execute a perfect pass at just 19-years-old is a rare skill and one that the Rangers will benefit from in the future.

Perreault would register another point on the night, when just about a minute into the third period Boston College scored their third goal of the game, and Gabe Perreault collected a secondary assist.

Drew Fortescue also demonstrated his ability and potential value to the Rangers in Friday night's contest. The 19-year-old defenseman put on full display his ability to win battles in the corners and come away with the puck, usually following up the victory of possession with a calm and accurate breakout pass to allow Boston College to attack up the ice.

Just How Good Is Perreault?

Perreault is a promising young prospect for the New York Rangers and has been nothing short of excellent so far this season for the Eagles. The Rangers are no stranger to talented wingers with names like Kreider, Panarin, Lafreniere, and Smith currently littering their lineup. More offensive firepower is always welcome however, and if Perreault can blossom into a top six forward, Rangers fans will be more than content with the outcome.

In his postgame press conference, Northeastern head coach Jerry Keefe spoke about the first Boston College goal, saying:

"Puck gets stuck on the wall and turns into a two on one, and two of the top players in college hockey (Perreault and Leonard) go down and make a great play."
Jerry Keefe, Northeastern Head Coach

Perreault is drawing attention and praise from all around- including the coaches of opposing teams. Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue are currently two of the biggest offensive and defensive reasons for Boston College's dream start of 9-2-0, and could easily be contributing to a dream start to a Rangers season in a few years time.
