While two current members of the New York Rangers made history against the Golden Knights on Sunday, former Ranger Filip Chytil made an impressive debut in his first game as a Vancouver Canuck.

Most recently the Blueshirts defeated Las Vegas in a 4-2 comeback win that was highlighted by Jonathan Quick becoming the first American-born goaltender to reach 100 wins and J.T. making his return to Madison Square Garden. In order for Miller to appear in MSG though, the Rangers had to give up Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to the Canucks. On the same night Quick reached his milestone, Chytil scored his first goal for Vancouver in his debut game after the trade.

According to Yahoo Sports, Chytil was excited when he learned he'd be joining the Canuck roster.

"I had no idea. I was just sitting there and in the moment, I was very happy. Sometimes it’s a shock — of course, it’s a first for me that I’m moving to a different team — but honestly, I was very excited about it."

The 25-year-old's first goal with Vancouver came in the third period to tie the game 2-2 against the Detroit Red Wings. He stickhandled through the slot and sent the puck passed Red Wings' goaltender Alex Lyon.

Postgame to the media, Chytil said his first goal as a Canuck was an emotional moment for him.

"For the first game, I think it went pretty well. It's a lot of good things we can build on ... [The goal] meant a lot to me. In that moment, [there were] so many emotions in my head. I want to build on that and keep working hard everyday."

Throughout the evening against Detroit in the eventual 3-2 OT loss for Vancouver Chytil was carrying the puck through the neutral zone and looking to create opportunities with his skating and stickhandling ability. The center's final statline with the Rangers featured 164 points across 75 goals and 89 assists out of 378 games played. His most recent goal marked his 12th goal of the 2024-25 season.
