Gabe Perreault joined the New York Rangers, and his number is well known to the Perreault family. Gabe is the son of a long-time NHL veteran, Yanic Perreault. While Yanic was not as highly touted as Gabe, Yanic's career was very respectable, and it serves as a benchmark for Gabe to aim for. However, it will offer more than just a benchmark, as he can learn from his father, his former teammates, and the success some of them had in the NHL.

Yanic started his career in Toronto after getting drafted by the Maple Leafs in 1991. He only played 13 games in Toronto in his first spell there before he moved on to Los Angeles. In the City of Angels, Yanic played 288 games across five years, scoring 76 goals and 80 assists for 156 points. However, he wasn't the player paid to score for the Los Angeles Kings then, but we'll get back to that.

Yanic eventually bounced around, playing in Montreal, Nashville, Chicago, and Phoenix and having two more spells in Toronto before retiring. He ended his career with 859 games, scoring 247 goals and 269 assists for 516 points. That was done in an era when scoring was almost impossible, so those numbers are more respectable than they would be today. He became a pretty strong player, but there is a former teammate of Yanic Gabe who can draw more from.

Remember when I said Yanic wasn't the guy paid to score for the Kings in the 1990's? Some dude named Wayne Gretzky was. What did he ever do in his NHL career? Gabe can talk to The Great One if he wants to improve. Being coached by the greatest player ever to grace an NHL surface is a benefit few have. If he can learn from the careers of those two, Gabe might be okay.
