The New York Rangers are starting to find their groove, and have picked up back-to-back wins against the Dallas Stars and Ottawa Senators, but their top six could use a little something more. The Blueshirts' third line of youngsters is crafting an identity, the fourth line has been more than capable for most of the season, but there's a clear need for another top-six forward on the roster. The organization has been giving their top prospect time in Hartford to develop and gain confidence, and his recent hot streak could give the front office something to think about.
Gabe Perreault continues hot streak with Hartford Wolf Pack
The Wolf Pack celebrated a 5-2 victory over the Springfield Thunderbirds on Friday evening, and it just so happened to be the team's first three-game winning streak of the 2025-26 AHL season.

Gabe Perreault once again was a big difference maker for his team. He opened up the scoring with a goal in the first period, and he scored once more in the third period to make it 4-2 with 5:45 remaining in the game. It was an important insurance goal for the team, and came during a time in which Springfield was pressing to tie the game.

Perreault is on a bit of a heater right now, and the 20-year-old AHL rookie has scored five goals and added two assists for seven points over his last five games. The Wolf Pack have had Perreault for 16 games this season, and he's contributed 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points. Among players under the age of 21, Perreault is currently second in points per game, eighth in the league in total points and second in goals with 10 scored in just 16 games. He is producing at an elite level when evaluating him against his peers, and he's doing what the Rangers want him to.
Will Perreault get the call to rejoin the team soon?
At some point Perreault will get another shot at the NHL level, and it becomes a question of when is the right time? Ideally you want to call a prospect up when they are playing sound hockey, because you want to try and have them ride the momentum from the minors into the NHL. There is a clear need for someone like Perreault on the roster right now, and December is another busy month full of games.
The Rangers have 13 more games this month, and the Pack have eight more. It is possible that the Rangers want Perreault to get more AHL games under his belt, and be sure that his level of production is sustainable. In any case, fans have to be thrilled with how Perreault has embraced the challenges of Hartford, and it is good to see a prospect join the team and have immense success.
