With the centennial season coming up for the New York Rangers in 2025-26, there have been a lot of great players to wear the Blueshirt. Namely, there has been a fantastic list of defensemen throughout the history of this organization.
One of those defensemen is still suiting up for the Rangers today, and hopefully for the rest of his career. Adam Fox has been everything and more for this organization, the one that he has rooted for since he was a kid growing up in Jericho, New York.
How far will he climb amongst the greatest Rangers defensemen in their 100-year history?
Current placement
Currently, Fox has played 431 games with the Rangers over the past six years, scoring 63 goals and adding 306 assists for 369 points. That point total has him in fifth place all-time, behind Brian Leetch, Rob Greschner, James Patrick, and Brad Park.
He still has a way to go before reaching the elite company of the Rangers greatest defensemen of all time, but Fox is on his way in the early going of his career. The 26-year-old has yet to enter the prime of his career, so his best hockey is still in front of him. Especially starting this upcoming season of 2025-26, with a brand-new and highly-touted defensive partner in Vladislav Gavrikov.
Over the next four to six seasons, Fox could propel himself into further superstardom. With a Norris Trophy and a second-place finish already under his belt, he has proven his ability to be the NHL's best defenseman.
Where will he end up?
Looking at the lifespan of defensemen who play at the level that Fox has played over the last six seasons, he has only touched about a third of his career in the NHL. There is still a long way to go until we all see #23 get his jersey retired into the rafters of Madison Square Garden, or another arena. Let us all hope it is not the latter.
At the end of his career, a great argument can be made that Fox will surpass all of the current Rangers records for points and assists, and he may also bring home another Norris Trophy or two. He can surely push to pass the 1,000+ point threshold held only by "Mr. Ranger", Rod Gilbert.
But, none of that makes him the greatest Rangers defenseman of all-time, unless he does the one thing that every hockey player strives for. Bringing the Stanley Cup back to his childhood favorite team and celebrating it in his home state. Only then will Fox be #1.
