How should the New York Rangers lineup on the powerplay moving forward?

The New York Rangers' powerplay was a topic of conversation in the defeat to the Boston Bruins. With the acquisition of J.T. Miller, the Blueshirts man advantage has several fantastic players available to this organization. Still, the franchise has to pick the best six to put on the top unit. They rotated against the Boston Bruins, but the Rangers must find a settled group. The choices regarding who should be on that five-man unit are difficult for the Rangers coaching staff.

In game one of Miller's return, he slotted into the first unit for Chris Kreider, but the Rangers man advantage struggled to make an impact. Kreider's net-front presence is among the best in the NHL, so the Rangers lacked that player who could take the netminder's eyes away. Miller's shot is better suited to playing away from the crease, so he wasn't a great fit. Vincent Trocheck tried in vain, but it was ultimately a shortcoming.

On the powerplay, the Rangers need someone at the point who can move the puck, so Adam Fox will always take his place at the blue line. Artemi Panarin is the Rangers' best forward, so he'll take his place on the wing. Miller can slide onto the other wing or be in the bumper position high in the slot. There are a few options for the rest of this unit.

Trocheck, Mika Zibanejad, Alexis Lafreniere, and Chris Kreider are the other options for filling the positions. Kreider's net-front ability means he should be getting the start in front of the net, but his lack of production means he isn't a lock. Trocheck, as a right-handed center, is a fantastic option for winning draws. Lafreniere is also a right-handed shot but doesn't offer what Trocheck does, and then there's that vaunted Mika one-timer that the Rangers enjoy.

There's ultimately no correct answer here. You can make the case for any of these players until the Rangers find a combination that works. We'll see what happens in the future, but the powerplay has been the crutch of this organization for a few seasons.
