Players to Watch

Artemi Panarin

Artemi Panarin is in a scoring drought and this is the longest he's gone goalless to start an NHL season. Tonight is the seventh game of the season, and this is the longest he's gone to start a season without scoring a goal. Prior to this year, the longest he'd ever gone with a goal to start a season was four games. Panarin only has 13 shots on goal thus far, and it is possible he's still working himself into game shape after missing the preseason. Maybe he's also feeling the pressure of not having a contract for next season, but in any case, the Rangers need him to get involved in the offense and propel the team forward.

Jonathan Quick

Quick will be between the pipes for his second start of the season, and had a strong showing in his season opener against the Washington Capitals. The future hall of fame netminder stopped 21 of 22 shots vs. Washington, and enters the evening with a 1.03 goals against average and a .952 save percentage. This will be Quick's fifth time facing the Habs since joining the Blueshirts, and so far he's got a record of 2-0-2 with a .885 save percentage and a 3.63 goals against average.

Alexis Lafrenière

Lafrenière is from Saint-Eustahce, Quebec, and tonight's game is a homecoming for him. He's enjoyed playing in the Bell Centre, and scored for the Rangers the first time he played the Canadiens on October 16, 2021. He also scored a goal in Montreal on March 9, 2023, and on January 19 of this year. In 12 total games vs. the Habs, Lafrenière has four goals and two assists for six points, and you can expect him to have a little extra jump tonight.
