Injuries are starting to pile up for the New York Rangers, and the team just announced a flurry of moves to put the team in the best position going forward. J.T. Miller is already day-to-day with an upper body injury, but now Jonathan Quick and Will Borgen's immediate status is unknown.

Rangers recall Brett Berard and Dylan Garand, assign Scott Morrow

Berard failed to make the team out of training camp, and spent 35 games with the team last season. He contributed six goals and four assists for 10 points during that stretch, and he averaged 10:43 per game. This season Berard has appeared in 17 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, and he's contributed two goals and seven assists for nine points. He was impressive in spurts last season for the Rangers, and he arguably has more long time upside than someone such as Jonny Brodzinski or Conor Sheary. Both those players are veterans with experience, but the Rangers stand to benefit from a bit of a different look.

Morrow was assigned to Hartford so that the Rangers could add another forward to the mix, and the addition of Berard could suggest Miller might miss some more time than expected. The young blueliner had an up and down time during his most recent assignment with the Rangers, and he now rejoins the Wolf Pack where he can hopefully log top pair minutes and further develop. If Borgen is going to be out for a signifcant period of time, it makes sense for the Rangers to try and stabilize their defense with players that Mike Sullivan trusts. That doesn't include Morrow right now, and there's no sense in making him a healthy scratch.

Jonathan Quick's status remains unknown

Quick finished the game for the Rangers in Utah, but he was clearly banged up enough that the Rangers don't even want to put him in a position where he will have to potentially come into a game. It has been a bit of a rough time for Garand this season, and he's posted a record of 3-6-2 in 11 games with a 2.96 goals against average and a .897 save percentage for the Wolf Pack.

The Rangers take on the St. Louis Blues on Monday, and then are going back on the road. This latest set of moves will result in a different look up front and on the back end, and means the team will have a lefty shot on defense playing the right side.
