The New York Rangers are a bit shaky coming off unlucky games and now they face the Minnesota Wild. This was a long, suspenseful but rewarding game in the end for the Rangers. The Wild didn’t get their back-to-back win, and New York comes out on top.

As the Rangers glided onto the ice at the Xcel Energy Center to face the Wild in an away game, they looked energetic and ready to secure a win. Even with the Ranger players loaded with energy and speed on the ice, there were no goals in the first period for either team. This game is the first time the Rangers have faced the Wild for this 2024-2025 season.

All games for the Rangers are essential to secure a wildcard spot, and they have to play to win. The Wild are currently in the first wildcard slot for the Western division, so this team feels more confident than the Rangers in this race. The Rangers are still in the ranking but are in the fourth spot for the Eastern wildcard.

Rangers aren’t coming off a winning streak; they have lost their last four games. The drive should be there; they need this more than the Wild. The Rangers are hungry for a win. The Wild have no impressive winning streak, but they are coming off a win from their previous matchup.

The second period was more juicy, with Vincent Trocheck scoring a goal for the Rangers. Will Cuylle and K’Andre Miller assist him. The Rangers get the headstart with the first goal of the game. It’s a good sign for the Rangers to take the lead in this game. There was no power-play magic from the Rangers. By the end of the second period, three separate power-play chances were unsuccessful. Goalie Igor Shesterkin has diligently protected the net and deflected the puck so the Wild can’t get a one-up.

It was a weird penalty to start the third period with Matt Rempe getting called out for an “interference” on Wild player Devin Shore. Rempe is a big guy. He barely touched Shore but down goes Shore and Rempe is at fault.

The Rangers were up from the second period, but entering the third, they gave up a goal to the Wild, making it a tie game. In an intense, tied, third period,  both teams fight to get another goal, and with the Ranger’s momentum, they get another goal scored by Jonny Brodzinski, the local of Minnesota. Zac Jones and Rempe assist his snapshot. The lead doesn’t last long for the Rangers as the Wild get a goal in a quick turnaround, less than three minutes later to tie the game. It's a battle of the goals in this exciting matchup.

The battle continues as both teams enter Overtime. The intensity is high to see which team will reveal itself as the winner of this matchup. In less than two minutes, Braden Schneider scored the winning goal. He is assisted by Artemni Panarin and J.T. Miller. Schneider breaks the losing streak for the Rangers. Smiles and proud hugs are all over the Ranger’s bench. A winning game for the Blueshirts after all. Let’s make it a streak. Playoffs are coming.
