The New York Rangers were in San Jose on Saturday night to take on the last place San Jose Sharks in a game with massive playoff implications for the Blueshirts. Rangers' starter Igor Shesterkin was on the bench for the first time since March ninth after losing four of his last five starts, and veteran backup Jonathan Quick got the nod to man the Blueshirts' goal.

Quick lived up to his reputation, shutting out the Sharks for 57 minutes, and allowing his teammates to build up a lofty 6-0 lead. This performance stood in stark contrast to how the Rangers have played as of late, often giving up leads or failing to produce at all offensively.

While the scoreboard may reflect a dominant Blueshirts' performance, the Rangers still needed some big saves from their record-setting veteran goalie.

Quick would make 21 saves on 22 shots, allowing a goal with just over two minutes remaining to Sharks rookie forward Cam Lund. Saturday night marked the first Rangers game since March 2nd in which a Blueshirts goalie had a save percentage over .950- with the last time being a Jonathan Quick shutout against the Nashville Predators.

The victory brought Quick to 403 career wins- the most of any American-born goaltender in NHL history. With an all-time goals against average of 2.49, and a save percentage of .911, Quick is still building on the legacy he'll leave behind the day he retires.

Quick said postgame that the stakes are high for the Blueshirts as of late, so every game counts.

"Where we're at in the season- y'know, we need every point we're fighting for. It helps our chances there."

Across his last four completed starts, Quick has earned a record of 3-1-0, helping to earn crucial points down the stretch as the Rangers try to claw their way into the postseason. Rangers starting goalie Igor Shesterkin, however, has gone 1-3-1 over his last five starts. With just eight games of the season remaining, Peter Laviolette may need to consider who should be between the pipes for the Blueshirts. Quick has hundreds of games in NHL experience and has made 93 career playoff starts- he may be the perfect veteran presence necesarry for the Rangers to sieze control of the last playoff spot in the East.
