On Monday night there was at least one thing for New York Rangers to feel good about at Madison Square Garden. And no, it unfortunately didn't help the Blushirts playoff chase.

Instead, the feel-good moment happened before the game, and it was a special moment — goaltender Jonathan Quick was named the fourth annual winner of the Rod Gilbert Mr. Ranger Award. The accolade is awarded to the Rangers player "who best honors Rod's legacy by exemplifying leadership qualities both on and off the ice, and making a significant humanitarian contribution to his community." Quick now joins Chris Kreider (2021-22), Jacob Trouba (2022-23), and Adam Fox (2023-24) as players to win this award.

The annual "Mr. Ranger" Award, was created in the 2021-22 season in honor of Rod Gilbert.

Before the start of the eventual 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Quick was named the winner.

"It’s an honor. I know a lot of guys who’ve won it over the years and what they’ve meant to this organization and obviously what he’s meant to this organization and the legacy he’s left behind."

The 39-year-old netminder is now one of the team’s most important and impactful leaders. The three-time Stanley Cup Champion has been an invaluable presence for the Rangers since joining the Blueshirts prior to the 2023-24 season.

Quick, 39, has posted a 10-7-2 record in 23 appearances for the Blueshirts this season, along with three shutouts. He has achieved multiple milestones this season, including making league history and becoming the first U.S.-born goaltender to earn 400 wins and the 15th goaltender in NHL history to do so, as well as becoming the 17th goaltender in NHL history to appear in 800 career games, and the second U.S.-born netminder to do so. His 403 career wins are tied with Grant Fuhr for the 13th most in NHL history. He is the sixth different goaltender in the past 50 years to register three shutouts in a single season at age 39 or older.

Off of the ice through his time with the Rangers, Quick has gotten involved with the Garden of Dreams Foundation and helped spread awareness about the importance of mental health in athletes.

"Through your experiences and what you’re able to go through, you look forward to the opportunity to give back, so that definitely means a lot."
