In a game the New York Rangers had to win Sunday night at Madison Square Garden to keep their playoff hopes alive, Rangers' goaltender Jonathan Quick shut out the Nashville Predators 4-0.
Playing in his 800th National Hockey League game, Jonathan Quick earned his 63rd career shutout and third this season. The 39-year-old tendy and Connecticut native finished with 34 saves, including a whopping 20 in the third period. As a result of his play, Quick was given the Broadway Hat and became the sixth goalie in the past 50 years to register three shutouts in a single season at age 39 or older.

Postgame, New York Head Coach Peter Laviolette said it is crucial to have a goaltender your franchise can trust in the crease.
“When there are breakdowns, you need your goaltender to make saves and both guys are doing that, Quickie was fantastic tonight,” head coach Peter Laviolette said. “Especially in the third, when that game was 3-0, he had to make some big saves. There’s definitely that we could’ve and should’ve done better in front of him. A little sleepy coming out for the third period, but overall, pretty good game.”

Quick now moves to No. 18 in National Hockey League history for most career shutouts with 63. At No. 17 is former Ranger legend Henrik Lundqvist. Quick only needs to record one more shutout to tie the Hall of Famer with 64 shutouts. The Rangers' other star goaltender Igor Shesterkin was seen from the bench looking on with pride and a smile on his face.
He is also the all-time wins leader among American goaltenders in the NHL, now has a 9-5 record, three shutouts, a 2.92 goals against average and a .903 save percentage through 20 appearances in the 2024-25 regular season.

In what many fans across social media called a "typical Jonathan Quick performance" against Nashville shows the level of excitement that is still alive for Blueshirt fans. Hopefully, fans will have more to look forward to overall and from Quick if the Rangers can keep their momentum and secure a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
