Everything is wrong with the New York Rangers. However, one player has been underperforming to the point of extreme concern: K'Andre Miller. Miller was the 22nd overall pick by the New York Rangers in the 2018 NHL entry draft and has shown flashes of dominance during his young career. The issue lies in his lack of consistency at this level, which has left fans and management wanting more from the St. Paul, Minnesota native.

At 6'5, 215 lbs, Miller has the size, speed, and reach to be an elite defenseman, but he's struggled drastically recently. He's not getting the puck out of his own zone, his production has dropped, and he's become a liability defensively. Many thought his struggles were due to the decline of Jacob Trouba, but he's gotten worse since the former Ranger captain was traded to the Anaheim Ducks. He's getting to the point where the Rangers cannot use him.

It's not good enough, and he's in a contract year. Perhaps the pressure of performing for a payday is putting the player off, but it's something he needs to fix soon. Miller often gets left out when discussing Rangers, who may be finding new destinations due to his age. However, that might change when he turns 25 in January. He's still not lived up to the expectations placed upon him with his draft position, so the Rangers could look for a general manager who still sees his potential.

Trading Miller for someone of a similar age and skillset in a "change of scenery" deal would probably benefit both the Rangers and Miller. Some cannot bear the burden of the bright Broadway Lights, and Miller hasn't cemented that top-four spot down for himself. New York needs to revamp its defense, and Miller looks more like a problem than part of the solution.
