Players to watch
Mika Zibanejad
Zibanejad has just one assist in two games against the Hurricanes this season and four shots on goal. On top of that, Zibanejad has gone the last three games without recording a shot on goal. Carolina has been one of the top defensive teams in the league this season, the Rangers need Zibanejad to be engaged and help drive the offense. He has a line of 3-7-10 in 12 games, but just 25 shots on goal after recording 43 in November, and 39 in October.
Igor Shesterkin
Shesterkin made 36 saves during a 4-2 win against the Hurricanes back in November, and the Blueshirts are going to lean on him once again. He currently leads the NHL in shots faced, saves made, and time logged and is coming off a tough loss to the Islanders in which he stopped 24 of 25 shots faced. Carolina is a team that has given Igor fits in the regular season (6-9-0, .906 save percentage and 2.85 goals against average) but he's more than capable of delivering an effort to get the team a much needed win.
Vincent Trocheck
Trocheck has played 29 games against the Hurricanes throughout his NHL career, and in that span he has five goals, eight assists, and 13 points. He also spent a few seasons with the Hurricanes, and it seems like he treats these matchups against his former team with an extra level of seriousness. The Blueshirts saw that in the playoffs a few seasons ago. Trocheck has eight goals, 12 assists, and 20 points in the 26 games he has played this season, and with J.T. Miller still sidelined, he's a main focus of the Rangers' offense.
