Louis Domingue has been one of the underrated parts of the Rangers organization for a few years now. As a right-handed catching goaltender, he is a unicorn in the hockey world. However, we could be coming to the end of his tenure with the New York Rangers. As Talyn Boyko and Dylan Garand start to come into their own as truly extraordinary talents, and the Rangers extend Jonathan Quick and Igor Shesterkin, there's not a lot of room moving forward for Domingue.

He's been the Rangers' third netminder for a while now, and he's done a great job when called upon. Starting one game in the last two seasons, Domingue won both, averaging a .943 save percentage and a 1.50 goals-against average. That's extremely strong, considering he hadn't been a full-time NHL goaltender in five years when he arrived. However, his veteran voice has been a great addition to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Domingue helped backstop the Pack into the postseason last year, and it was a wonderful moment to see that drought in Hartford end. The Rangers have also had him mentor young talents like the Garand and Boyko mentioned, and they could be in a much darker position if it weren't for the efforts of his mentorship. The New York Rangers were lucky to have someone as serviceable as he was for so long.

Domingue is a pending unrestricted free agent, and there's no logic to retaining him past this season. He's been one of the best goaltenders in the AHL over his tenure, but the Rangers have kids coming through who need that time in the crease to develop. He'll have to find a new home elsewhere, and there is no doubt he'll find somewhere else to call home. Teams always want a good third goaltender, so he'll be okay.
