It's official — after some initial reports on Thursday morning, first-year head coach Mike Sullivan officially has the rest of his coaching staff on lock.
Reports first began circulating on Thursday morning once Marco Sturm was named the new head coach of the Boston Bruins. Once that was announced, rumors began to swirl that Joe Sacco, David Quinn and Ty Hennes would join Sullivan to complete his New York Rangers' coaching staff. Two of the three are making the change over to the Rangers from the Pittsburgh Penguins alongside their former head coach.
Here's a look at each of the three new hires.

Joe Sacco
Sacco's announcement is unique in that unlike Quinn and Hennes who are following Sullivan over from Pittsburgh, Sacco is coming under Sullivan's charge after serving as the interim head coach for the Bruins.
A Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick in 1987, Joe Sacco played in 738 games throughout his career with the Leafs, Ducks, Islanders, Capitals, and Flyers. Sacco got his coaching career with the minor league affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. He eventually became the head coach of their AHL team the Lake Erie Monsters. He then took over as the Avalanche’s head coach in the 2009-10 season after Tony Granato was fired and managed to get them to the playoffs. This landed him a Jack Adams nomination, but he was still let go after four seasons and has thus had careers as an assistant coach with the Buffalo Sabres and – most recently — the Boston Bruins.
David Quinn
Former rookie Rangers coach — who stood behind the bench from 2018-2021 — reunited with Sullivan in Pittsburgh least season. Clearly, the reunion being cut short when Sullivan took over for Laviolette was not to last long.
In his previous role with Pittsburgh during the 2024-25 NHL season, and while with Sullivan, Quinn was responsible for overseeing the team's defensemen and managing the power play unit.
David Quinn coached Team USA at the Olympics in 2022 and got a second chance behind an NHL bench with the San Jose Sharks as their head coach in 2023. He knows Sullivan well as the pair used to be teammates at Boston University.
Apparently, the rumors that Quinn would follow Sullivan back to New York were well-warranted.
Ty Hennes
Ty Hennes began his tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins as the team's skating and skills coach starting with the 2018–19 season before being promoted to assistant coach in November 2022.
His coaching style is known for emphasizing player development alongside skills enhancement with a heavy focus on skating techniques.
Hennes also has USA Hockey ties as he’s served as an assistant coach for the USA Men’s National Team and worked with USA Hockey prior to joining the Penguins organization
Like Sullivan and Quinn, Hennes also has experience on Boston ice, playing for Boston College in the early 2000s.
