New York Rangers need more from scoring among overreliance on their goaltending

The New York Rangers have won 32 games this season. Eight of them have come in the form of shutouts from their netminders. Between Jonathan Quick and Igor Shesterkin, 25% of the Rangers' wins this season have come because the goaltender shut the opposition out. A stat as insane as that highlights just how good the goaltending of the Blueshirts has been while also emphasizing the horrendous ineffectiveness of the forward core to put the puck in the net.

New York sits 14th in goals scored this season, behind the Devils. They are slightly ahead of Pittsburgh, St Louis, and Seattle in this regard. It's not been a good enough season from the players this franchise pays to score. Alexis Lafreniere, Chris Kreider, and Mika Zibanejad have been the three worst culprits this season for the Blueshirts, and it's a concern moving forward. New York has to find a way to score if they want to make the postseason.

The Rangers scored once in the defeat to the Edmonton Oilers. That was against Stuart Skinner, who is not one of the elite goaltenders in this league. He's a goaltender most Oilers fans want to see upgraded because he isn't the caliber of netminder that wins the cup. He struggles to keep the Oilers in games, and the Rangers only scored once against this goaltender because they cannot score goals.

If the Rangers want to get into the postseason, they need more scoring. Mika Zibanejad recently woke up from a prolonged slumber, and J.T. Miller has been a great addition to production, but there's not been much support. Players like Lafreniere, Kreider, Kaliyev, Parssinen, and even Adam Fox have failed to live up to their expectations this year. The Rangers need more from their players to reach the promisedland of the postseason.
