The New York Rangers get a chance to atone for their overtime defeat at the hands of the Utah Hockey Club tonight when they host the Detroit Red Wings. A clash we've seen hundreds of times over the years, two of the most storied franchises in the NHL are going head to head tonight from the most iconic hockey venue in the world. New York needs to clean up after the poor game against Utah, while Detroit is looking to get above .500.

New York knows that they have to be better. The constant stream of odd-man rushes allowed against Utah left Igor Shesterkin out to dry. While the sensational Russian netminder did not have the greatest game, he's still capable of being one of the best netminders in the NHL, knowing that the Rangers need to perform better in front of him before expecting Shesterkin to revert to his otherworldly self, especially against a dangerous offense like Detroit.

On the Red Wings side, they are coming into this game from a defeat by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Goaltending issues plague the team from Motown, and this is something the Rangers can look to exploit. Using their dominant top six, this Blueshirts roster can punch the puck at the net early and often. Lots of pucks on the net will be the order of the night.

Puck Drop

A 7 p.m. puck drop from the Garden will see the Rangers play their second home game of the season. New York is looking to add to their three points from four games, and this is a game the Rangers are expected to win. A good Utah roster came in and scored their defensive issues away. Detroit's issues at the back are more exaggerated and exploitable. There's a clear path to victory tonight for Peter Laviolette's team.
