It was a quiet week for the New York Ranger prospects, as there was little offensive production for all but Gabe Perreault of Boston College. The Rangers 2023 first round pick played in two games but only one was a counting game.
On Friday night Perreault's second ranked Boston College Eagles hosted American Internation College in non-conference play, Perreault had a 1-2-3-point night as the Eagles cruised to a 5-0 win. Perreault showed why he is one of the top offensive weapons in all of college hockey with his play.
On the goal Perreault was doing his best imitation of Panarin as he tapped his stick to let his teammates know he is open but once they got him the puck; Perreault had the AIC goalie at his mercy and beat him short side for his second goal of the season to make it 2-0 for his team.
Now for his first assist, you have to watch as Perreault skates through three AIC defenders and then put the puck right on the stick of Will Vote for Boston College's third goal of the game.
When it comes to being a playmaker the Rangers haven't had one the likes of Perreault in years and when he does come to New York, he is going to make his linemates look better with his playmaking skills.
What there was to like about this play was how Perreault had already made up his mind where to send the puck before he had even received the pass. As soon as Perreault had this puck, he was already setting up linemate James Hagen for his first career NCAA goal.
Three outstanding great plays from the sophomore forward who finished his game with a 1-2-3 on one shot with a +2. That gives Perreault after three games a 2-3-5.
On Saturday, Perreault and his teammates played an exhibition game against the US NTDP and while the 8-4 win doesn't count in the standings or stats, Perreault recorded yet another multiple point game in this one.
Perreault scored what was Boston College's fifth goal of the first period at 19:59.6 of the period. Sorry no video of the goal was available which is a shame too.
The same can be said about the primary assist that Perreault had set up linemate James Hagen just 38 seconds into the start of the second period. What a shame these two points did not count as it would have given Perreault a five-point weekend.
Brody Lamb (2021, 4th) was moved from fourth line, right wing up to second line, left wing and against Minnesota-Duluth. He responded with a 1-2-3 weekend.
Lamb is a 6'1", 175 lb forward entering his third season with the Golden Gophers. On Friday Lamb scored his first goal of the season. With his team on the power play, Lamb found a loose puck right in front of the Minnesota-Duluth goalie and shoved it past him for the goal.
As a junior, Lamb as a prospect is reaching a crossroads as Lamb has a ton of offensive talent but his problem has been consistency. Last season Lamb was 12-15-27 and to be blunt, Lamb should have had more.
Lamb too often defers to others when it comes to who should take the shots. Maybe he should have taken those shots himself not because he is selfish but because Lamb is a natural sniper.
If Lamb wants that New York Rangers Entry Level contract in the next year or two then he needs to double his offensive output. A twenty-four-goal season this year would raise his prospect status as the Rangers are lacking in natural goal scorers.
And as someone who can play right wing that too would help his career status as the Rangers could use all those who can play right wing in the pipeline.
Keep up with Blue Line Station to see who makes this list next week.
