The New York Rangers signed Matt Rempe to a two-year contract extension last week, and today they have doubled down on size and truculence for the bottom-six by signing forward Adam Edstrom to a matching extension.
Same contract as Rempe, per source — two years, $1.95M ($975K AAV) #NYR https://t.co/TljwYxhJ3K

Edstrom appeared in 51 games for the Rangers this past season, up from the 11 he logged during the 2023-24 season, and contributed five goals and four assists for nine points averaging 9:16 per night. In terms of underlying numbers, Edstrom had a 44.36 GF%, a 45.2 CF%, and a 46.84 xGF% in 467 minutes at 5v5.
Edstrom turns 25 in October, and at 6'7" and 241 pounds is a huge presence for the Rangers. Often times Edstrom took the ice with Matt Rempe (6'9" and 255 pounds), and the duo was quite intimidating for the opposition. The Rangers want to play with size and skill, and they hope that Edstrom continues to develop. At times he looked like a more polished version of Rempe, and in an ideal world both would continue to progress as players for the Blueshirts.
Edstrom was selected 161st overall at the 2019 draft, and before skating in the NHL for the Rangers he appeared in 43 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack where he scored 12 goals and added 5 assists for 17 points in 43 games. Offense isn't something that will likely be a big part of his game, but in limited action he's shown himself to be capable in the offensive zone when the puck is on his stick.
This latest transaction leaves the Rangers with $12,197,142 in cap space, and just a handful of players to re-sign. Will Cuylle, Arthur Kaliyev, K'Andre Miller, and Zac Jones remain restricted free agents, and Calvin de Haan is the loan unrestricted free agent who will hit free agency and likely sign with a new club for the 2025-26 season.
