World Juniors Hangover

Rangers prospects Gabe Perreault and Drew Fortescue brought home a gold medal for the United States in the 2025 World Junior Championship earlier this month, but are now back with their NCAA team at Boston College.

The Eagles stumbled back into the season with a 5-2 loss at home to 8-11-1 Merrimack on Jan. 10, in a game where Perreault and Fortescue combined for zero points and a minus-one rating. It's possible that Perreault, Fortescue, and the rest of the Eagles had a bit of a World Junior/Holiday hangover and weren't at their sharpest. Boston College head coach Greg Brown spoke after the game.

"We clearly weren’t as sharp as we need to be, after we scored I thought our choices became very suspect. All of a sudden, we were trying to force things that were low-percentage plays. We turned over too many pucks and that got Merrimack going in the right direction with their game."
Greg Brown, Boston College Head Coach

The very next night, Perreault and Fortescue would get the chance to make amends for their upset loss to Merrimack.

Bouncing Back

Saturday, Jan. 11th saw the Eagles travel to North Andover, Massachusetts to take on Merrimack once again. Boston College would make no mistake this time — defeating the Merrimack Warriors 4-1. Perreault and Fortescue would both register on the scoresheet for the — something Rangers fans may be getting used to in a few years time. Fortescue picked up his fifth assist of the season on what would become the game-winning goal for Boston College in the second period.

Perreault would pick up an assist of his own late in the third period for his 24th point of the season. All in all, Rangers prospects registered points on half the Eagles' goals on the night en route to a big bounce back win for Boston College.

Battle With the Crimson

Tuesday night saw Boston College host Harvard at Conte Forum in one of the only NCAA hockey games of the evening. The Eagles would ultimately come away with a 3-1 victory over the Crimson, and shining once again was Fortescue.

The 19-year-old defenseman registered yet another assist and was on the ice for another Boston College goal, bringing him to a plus/minus rating of plus-two on the night.

Perreault had himself a quiet game, registering no points and just a few shots on goal. Having just helped Team USA win a gold medal, he gets something of a pass for his first week back at BC. The contributions of the two players, both offensively and defensively, should spark excitment for Rangers fans moving forward. Fortescue and Perreault have showcased their ability on both the world and collegiate stages, and hopefully they'll soon be displaying that same ability in the NHL for the Blueshirts.
