New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today — Monday, Sept. 23 — that the club has assigned goaltender Hugo Ollas to the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack.

The Wolf Pack’s 2024 training camp begins on Sunday, Sept. 29. After finishing his collegiate career with Merrimack College last spring, Ollas signed his entry-level contract with the Rangers and then played one AHL game with Hartford on a PTO. During the 2023-24 season, he posted a 7-12-0 record with a .908 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average. Throughout three seasons with the Warriors, Ollas compiled a record of 27-27-0 with a .914 save percentage, 2.48 goals-against average, and six shutouts over 60 games.

The Rangers selected the native of Sweden in the seventh round (No. 197 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. Though assigned now to Hartford, it’s expected that Ollas will share the net in the ECHL this season with another 6-foot-7 goalie prospect, Talyn Boyko, who remains in Rangers camp. Veteran Louis Domingue and third-year pro Dylan Garand are expected to be the goalies in Hartford.

Though, Domingue and Garand split duties on Sunday when the Rangers opened the preseason with a win over the Boston Bruins. Domingue started and allowed for one goal on 15 shots in 30:18 of play. Garand picked up the win, allowing one goal across 13 shots.

After signing his entry-level contract with the Rangers on March 15, 2024, Ollas joined the Wolf Pack on an amateur tryout agreement — also known as ATO — for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign. He made his professional debut on April 20, 2024, against the Springfield Thunderbirds. He collected his first career victory that night, making 14 saves.

The Rangers further reduced their training camp roster by 14 other players Sunday, when they made their first cuts. Eleven of those players were assigned to Hartford — including Maxim Barbashev, Carter Berger, Brett Budgell, Jonny Evans, Blake Hillman, Blade Jenkins, Case McCarthy, Blake McLaughlin, Jake Murray, Chase Pauls, and Ryan Siedem.

The New York Rangers next preseason games are on Tuesday, Sept. 24 against the New York Islanders and Thursday, Sept. 26, once again against the Bruins.

The Wolf Pack will open the home portion of their 2024-25 schedule on Friday, Oct. 18, at the XL Center against the Springfield Thunderbirds; puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
