The New York Rangers return Ryan Lindgren on a one-year, 4.5 million dollar deal. The defenseman was seeking a long-term deal as a restricted free agent, but ultimately Lindgren and the Blueshirts agreed on a contract and avoided arbitration. The Rangers now have 623, 476 dollars left in salary cap after bringing back the young defenseman.

Through the 2023-24 campaign, the Minnesota native recorded 17 points, 3 goals, and 14 assists, in 76 regular season games. He closed out the year with a +22 rating and tacked on 103 blocks, 114 hits, and 14 takeaways. In 16 playoff games, the 26-year-old tallied three points, all assists.

Like last year, Lindgren is projected to be on the first defensive pairing with the 2021 Norris Trophy winner, Adam Fox, for the 2024-25 season.

Lindgren was a much-needed resign for the Rangers. He brings a playstyle perfect for New York hockey, grit, passion, and heart. He leaves it all on the ice and is always playing through injuries which has helped him earn the nickname “The Warrior.” He is a stout defender with a career plus/minus of +99 in six seasons. It’s important to have a workhorse like him, especially come playoff time when games come down to who wants it more.

It would have been nice to sign him to a two-year deal to lock him up for another season, but the one-year route can help the team save money and attempt to resign goalie Igor Shesterkin in 2025.

Lindgren will look forward to returning to Madison Square Garden as he had high praise for New York back in June

“I love it here," Lindgren said. "It's the best. I love the guys here, I love the city, how loyal the fans are and how much they care about us. I love being here and this is definitely where I want to be.”

This is the second biggest news coming from the Rangers defense this offseason, the first being the Jacob Trouba saga.
