The New York Rangers have acquired center Alexander Wennberg from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for a second-round draft pick in the 2024 NHL draft and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft. Wennberg will be coming with half of his contract eaten by the Kraken, meaning he will carry a $2.25 million cap hit until the end of the season. Wennberg has 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 60 games this season with the Kraken.

Wennberg stepping into the bottom six to fill a hole either between Rempe and Edstrom or between Cuylle and Kakko, letting Brodzinski find a more natural home lower down the lineup. While this isn't someone who can produce like Filip Chytil lower down the lineup, there's no denying that he is still a capable player that will make the Rangers better for the playoffs. This isn't Henrique or Lindholm who some wanted when Chytil was shut down for the year, but this is a good player.

Another player added to this group before the deadline is still a possibility, but this is a player that can make the team deeper and provide some form of depth scoring. It's not the immense depth a lot of other teams have but it makes the team better. It allows the organization to retain its major assets, which is something James Dolan wants the club to do. We'll see what happens between now and the deadline.

What do you think of this trade? Do you think the roster would have been better without Wennberg? It's a trade I've seen some people disagree with. Let me know your thoughts on it. Do you think Drury should have been in conversation for someone else? There have been mixed opinions on this trade. Some like the addition since it does address a need, but some think it's a poor fit for Laviolette's men.
