Rangers' Adam Fox Surpasses Ryan McDonagh On Club's All-Time Goal Scoring List
The Rangers' Norris Winning rearguard has leaped over former captain Ryan McDonagh for 13th-all-time in career goals by a defenseman.
Adam Fox has surpassed Ryan McDonagh in career goals as a New York Ranger in 159 fewer games.
The Jericho, New York native has amassed 53 goals in 357 games. "Foxy Clean" is already in 13th place just five years into his NHL career. Ryan McDonagh finished his tenure in New York with 51 goals in 516 games (eight seasons), ranking 14th in Rangers history. Fox was traded twice to land on his childhood favorite team. He debuted on Broadway in 2019-2020, quickly impressing with his supreme hockey IQ.
Fox earned the esteemed Norris Trophy in the pandemic-shortened 2021 NHL season and the club's Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award. The 25-year-old helped the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Final in 2022.
McDonagh became a Ranger similar to Fox. Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens, New York acquired the University of Wisconsin stand out in a swap that sent Scott Gomez over the border. No.27 helped the Rangers reach the 2014 Stanley Cup Final. The next season he captained the team to the 2015 Eastern Conference Final.
Upon the organization's goal to rebuild, "Mac Truck" was traded in 2018 to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He would win back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2020 and 2021. The St. Paul Minnesota native currently patrols the blue line for the Nashville Predators, whose hot run in March earned the club a ticket to the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
